¡Hola! My nombre es Mary Calabria y estoy feliz de ser parte de esta gran familia formada por los estudiantes, padres y maestros de nuestra escuela Adelante.

Nací en Valencia, España, pero desde pequeña viví en diferentes ciudades de Europa y Sur America hasta que hice mi hogar en Miami, Florida. Allí trabajé como maestra  bilingue por 14 años, sintiendo gran entusiasmo por enseñar y aprender algo nuevo cada día. Por eso disfruto mi trabajo y trato de enriquecer mis conocimientos constantemente.

Me gradué en la Universidad de Miami donde obtuve mi magistratura para enseñar español y música. Posteriormente obtuve una maestría para enseñar inglés como segundo lenguaje. Finalmente mi entusiasmo por la enseñanza me motivó a obtener un grado de especialista en educación en la Universidad Nova Southeastern situada en Fort Lauderdale, Florida. También tuve el placer y orgullo de trabajar para obtener National Certification en Early and Middle Childhood/English as a New Language.

Mi filosofía y experiencia sobre el aprendizaje de un segundo lenguaje evidencian la importancia de un ambiente receptivo para la práctica del nuevo idioma y el desarrollo de la capacidad de pensar. Por ello tengo preparado un segundo grado donde vamos a aprender cada día utilizando variadas y divertidas actividades. Estoy segura que con el trabajo en clase y la ayuda de los padres en casa, mis estudiantes van a tener un exitoso año escolar.

Hello! My name is Mary Calabria and I am very happy to be part of the big Adelante  family of students, parents, and faculty members.

I was born in Valencia, Spain, but I have lived in different cities in Europe and South America until I made my home in Miami, Florida. There, I worked as a bilingual teacher for 14 years, always enthusiastic and passionate about teaching and learning. For that reason, I enjoy my work and try to enrich my knowledge everyday.

I graduated at the University of Miami with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and music. Later, I earned a master's degree in TESOL to teach English as a second language. Finally, my enthusiasm for teaching motivated me to pursue a Specialist in Education degree at the Nova Southeastern University located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I also worked very hard to achieve National Certification in Early and Middle Childhood/English as a New Language.  

My philosophy and experience on second language acquisition shows the importance of having a receptive and warm environment for the student's practice of their developing language and thinking skills. For that reason, I have planned motivating and fun activities for my second graders. With their daily hard work and with their parents’ support, I am sure my second grade class is going to be successful.
